Building income streams is how I’ve funded the freedom to spend real time on the things I care about, without one job or one paycheck deciding everything. But quality beats quantity every time. I’d rather run four or five income sources that actually fit my skills than juggle a dozen mediocre side hustles for a bit of extra cash.
My Main Income Streams
1. Consulting (Expertise Monetized)
I dedicate a few hours a week to consulting for long-term clients in e-commerce and IT, drawing on years of experience in both. It’s not a full-time pursuit, and that’s exactly what makes it work: flexible hours, and work I actually enjoy.
2. Casual Work (Time for Money)
I still take on casual, pay-by-the-hour work now and then. It’s a good change of pace, gets me out of the house, and keeps me productive between the other streams. I cap it at a few days a month so it doesn’t eat into everything else. The demand is there, I could easily do more, I’m just not chasing it.
3. Stocks and Stock Options (Strategic Investing)
I sell put options selectively, only when the setup actually favors me. Good, low-risk setups don’t come around often, so this takes patience. When I’m not holding a position, that capital sits in a high-yield savings account earning 5% a year, so it’s never just sitting idle.
4. Forex Trading (Risk and Reward)
Forex is risky, no way around that, but I’ve managed to keep returns positive. It’s volatile and needs constant attention, this isn’t a set-and-forget stream. Most of the profit gets reinvested straight into my dividend portfolio.
5. Musician (Passion and Income)
After a break, I’m back playing gigs regularly, and it’s as much about the people and the creative outlet as it is the money. A few bookings a month at a solid rate, and it doesn’t feel like work.
Future Income Stream: Dividend Portfolio
I’m also building a dividend-focused stock portfolio, aimed at passive income and long-term growth. It’s still early. Most of what funds it right now is reinvested forex profits, plus whatever extra I funnel in. The portfolio has grown to a decent size, and it’s already generating a real yield, though I’m not putting exact numbers here yet. As it grows, I’ll break down the real figures, size, yield, allocation, in its own article.
Supplemental Income
I sell off accumulated stuff on eBay and Facebook Marketplace sometimes, nothing regular. It’s not a real income stream, more a way to recoup money I already spent and funnel a bit more into the dividend portfolio.
Buy The Dip
I have an account specifically for buying dips in the stock market. The main focus is index ETFs and leveraged index ETFs.
I also own some real estate which is generally a long term proposition and not very efficient at producing income though capital gains have been good.
Diversifying income streams are essential for me in achieving financial freedom. I encourage you to explore your own potential income sources and develop a plan that aligns with your goals and passions.
